When two artists work together in a truly collaborative way new ideas and art are generated. Good art needs transformative moments and the friction generated by a collaborative venture can force the issue. Brenda Tye and Peter Sharp have been making prints together for over fifteen years which have included a wide range of mediums such as etching, woodcut and monotypes. This exhibition is dedicated to monoprinting as this process is more immediate and intuitive by nature.  The subject matter is the ubiquitous Eucalypt tree, but by layering and using stencils new forms and arrangements are created that show the Australian icon in new abstracted ways.

APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN 2018 NSW VISUAL ARTS EMERGING FELLOWSHIP

Artspace and Create NSW are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2018 NSW Visual Arts Emerging Fellowship valued at $30,000. This Fellowship is offered by Create NSW to enable a visual artist at the beginning of their career to undertake a self-directed program of professional development. A shortlist of up to 12 artists will be selected by an independent panel of peers managed by Create NSW to participate in an exhibition at Artspace.

The Fellowship is Artspace’s key exhibition for profiling the dynamism and breadth of emerging contemporary artistic practice in NSW, and builds upon our ongoing commitment to supporting emerging artists through curatorial development and dialogue. Alexie Glass-Kantor, Michelle Newton and Lola Pinder will co-curate the exhibition, collaborating closely with each artist through a series of studio visits and mentored exchanges to further develop their work for the finalists’ presentation in November.

We encourage visual artists to apply for the Fellowship, which supports the professional development of artists in NSW, enabling recipients to undertake activities including travel, mentorships, internships, courses, research and the creation of new work.

Applications for the 2018 NSW Visual Arts Emerging Fellowship are now open, and close midnight Friday, 3 August, 2018.
